Connecting the Pieces

God has a way of making me realize when something is supposed to hit home.

Sometimes it's through a key phrase in a song lyric or a message from a speaker, sometimes it's through a talk with one of my big sisters, and sometimes it is through repetition.  My favorite is when God shows me connections.

I'm a girl who loves connections.  I'm a mystery solver, a puzzler, and a connection maker.  This fact alone is probably why I fell in love with Ted Dekker's books. (They are full of connections between books that aren't even in the same series.)

So, when I am able to discover that a message I heard in church a week ago relates to the topic the speaker I'm listening to right now is discussing makes me happier than it probably should.  Not only does the whole "I made a connection!" aspect brighten my mood but it also makes me stop and ponder.  "I see what you did there, God."

Like a lot of people I severely lack application in many areas of my life, be it practicing patience, gossiping, obedience, practically the whole spectrum.  That's why I cherish the moments when my attention can be grabbed out of the insanity that is my scattered mind in order to focus on a part of my life that requires a little bit of spiritual handiwork.

Many times throughout this past year or two these sort of occurances have happened in large amounts.  Many times I will go to church on Tuesday nights and learn a great message, then go to Navs on Thursday and hear a message radically similar.

I'm not saying that we should rely on repetition in order to find points to start our heart change.  We should constantly be working on all areas of our heart in order to glorify God through that.  But I love when I can thank Jesus for being patient with me & letting me sometimes figure out the obvious stuff in such a creative way as making connections.

Why I Don't Post Errday

Easy answer?  I'm super lazy and frankly it doesn't cross my mind all that often.  I don't mind not having a blog that demands daily posts (I even said that in my first post to this blog).

But even more than that, I have always felt that when I post it should be meaningful.  It should be about something I'm passionate about and should be WORTH READING.  I'm not saying everything I have posted IS worth reading, I know it's not.  I also know that I'm very self-critical... But any-who I am the type of person that believes when you write something it should have a purpose.  ((This unfortunately doesn't always apply to my Facebook posts, but hey, sometimes you've just got to quote Julian Smith videos back and forth with someone for an hour.))

If I'm going to sit down and take the time to write up a post, I want to make sure it's something that will impact someone in a positive way.  I've always wanted my overall purpose for writing to be to "inform, inspire, and create desire".  You could also add in "make the reader laugh & smile".

I'm not trying to knock on the types of bloggers that just sit down and write about whatever comes to mind, I just don't really see the point.  If your post doesn't have a purpose... then what is it doing??  All-in-all I just wanted to say that if you haven't seen me post in a while it's probably because I'm critiquing all of the post ideas flying around my ever-active brain.  So please, be patient with me. :)

^^This probably wasn't the most well written post.  That's probably because I spontaneously decided to write it at 2am.  Ironic huh?

The Bucket List

*No affiliation with the movie.

Recently my good friend Jackie and I have decided to put our creative and adventurous minds together to create a bucket list.  We will attempt to complete the tasks together as 'bucket buddies'.  Of course others are welcome to join in in our endeavors.  Some of our list items are small and could probably be done this year, others will take time to get done.  We even got so fancy as to start logging our bucket list on  I'll list a couple of our items we were hoping to do together and with other people, and if you're interested in 'bucketing' with us then just let us know.  We'd love to adventure with you!

  • Horseback Riding - neither of us have done anything more than the back-and-forth rides at the harvest fair.  We want to actually go on a trail or something.
  • Release Wishing Lanterns on New Years (Next Year)
  • Beach Trip with Friends - at least a weekend, maybe a week.
  • Ride Tallest Roller Coaster in USA
  • Visit Whit's End - they have a building set up to look just like it!
  • Paint a Giant Canvas Together - splatter painting for sure.
  • ect.
So let us know if you want to join in on the fun, and also if you have any fun suggestions we're always looking for more things to add.

The Written Word Tuesday: Thus Doth Love Speak

In honor of Valentine's Day being a few short days away I thought I would share with you a beautiful poem I found on love.  I know it's probably a little more mushy gushy than you'd expect from me.  Or not, I really have no idea what your opinion of me is... But in any event I think it's beautifully written and worth sharing.  Thus doth Love speak.  Have fun and
Love's Language

How does Love speak?

In the faint flush upon the telltale cheek,
And in the pallor that succeeds it; by
The quivering lid of an averted eye--
The smile that proves the parent to a sigh
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?

By the uneven heart-throbs, and the freak
Of bounding pulses that stand still and ache,
While new emotions, like strange barges, make
Along vein-channels their disturbing course;
Still as the dawn, and with the dawn's swift force--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?

In the avoidance of that which we seek--
The sudden silence and reserve when near--
The eye that glistens with an unshed tear--
The joy that seems the counterpart of fear,
As the alarmèd heart leaps in the breast,
And knows, and names, and greets its godlike guest--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?

In the proud spirit suddenly grown meek--
The haughty heart grown humble; in the tender
And unnamed light that floods the world with splendor;
In the resemblance which the fond eyes trace
In all fair things to one belovèd face;
In the shy touch of hands that thrill and tremble;
In looks and lips that can no more dissemble--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?

In the wild words that uttered seem so weak
They shrink ashamed in silence; in the fire
Glance strikes with glance, swift flashing high and higher,
Like lightnings that precede the mighty storm;
In the deep, soulful stillness; in the warm,
Impassioned tide that sweeps through throbbing veins,
Between the shores of keen delights and pains;
In the embrace where madness melts in bliss,
And in the convulsive rapture of a kiss--
Thus doth Love speak.

-Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Wasn't that pretty?  I hope you all have a stupendous V-day!  And remember somebody loves you!

Sneak-Peak: Valentine's Day

Last year I made a cute little Valentine to share digitally with my friends.  Basically it was just an old photo of my cousin Jonathan and I in our horribly cute days with "Happy Valentine's Day" written on it.

I believe this is still my favorite picture of myself.
In any event, last year I got an idea for this year stuck in my head and I am so excited to share it. (though now I'm considering that I've hyped myself up too much for this...)  So I will share an altered image of this year's Valentine so as not to give it away quite yet.

Have fun trying to figure THAT ONE out. *sly smirk*

The Written Word Tuesday: Bears, Fire, Snow, and Water

This poem just goes to show you that everyone's afraid of something.

The Bear, The Fire, And The Snow

"I live in fear of the snow," said the bear.
"Whenever it's here, be sure I'll be there.
Oh, the pain and the cold,
When one's bearish and old.
I live in fear of the snow."

"I live in fear of the fire," said the snow.
"Whenever it comes then it's time I must go.
With its yellow lick flames
Leaping higher and higher,
I live in fear of the fire."

"I live in fear of the river," said the fire.
"It can drown all my flames anytime it desires,
And the thought of wet
Makes me sputter and shiver.
I live in fear of the river."

"I live in fear of the bear," said the river.
"It can lap me right up, don't you know?"
While a mile away
You can hear the bear say,
"I live in fear of the snow."
